10 Terms When Reading A Magazine Cover


  1. Target audience- who the story on the front cover is aimed at 
  2. Main image- the focal image/picture 
  3. Theme- what colours are used 
  4. representation- what point are they trying to get across to the reader 
  5. indirect or direct address- if there is a person, where are they faced and why?
  6. subheading- a little phrase underneath a heading to catch the readers attention
  7. Font- what kind of writing is used and why?
  8. layout- how the page is set out; words and pictures
  9. selling point- why and what are they trying to sell?
  10. Main heading or Masthead- to capture the readers attention. Also to tell the reader what the artical is about.

    ebi worth developing the details further and thinking how to really explain what is needed when you analyse a magazine cover - think about terminology, think about how the audience is targeted.
